State Assembly votes to axe tampon tax

The so-called "tampon tax" could be soon tossed out of New York State.

The State Assembly unanimously passed the bill, which exempts feminine hygiene products, such as tampons and sanitary napkins, from New York's 4% sales tax.

"The tampon tax is a regressive tax on women and their bodies," said Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal, who introduced the bill in May 2015.

The bill now heads to the Senate.

If passed, New York would join 10 other states that do not tax feminine hygiene products.
