Parts of First, Third and Niagara Streets in Downtown Niagara Falls are back open after police shut them down for several hours Monday afternoon to investigate a suspicious package.
Two bomb robots from the Erie County Bomb Squad were brought in to remove a large backpack left unattended near the Sheraton Hotel.
Investigators found personal items, including electronics, inside. The bag was taken away for further examination.
Police are now trying to determine who the backpack belonged to and why it was left where it was found.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police and the Erie County Sheriff's Bomb Squad also assisted Niagara Falls Police with their investigation.
