Niagara Falls Memorial Day Parade cancelled

The Niagara Falls Veterans Memorial Commission says it has to cancel the Memorial Day Parade this year because of a lack of funding.

The commission says it wanted to upgrade the parade by bringing in professional marching bands, in addition to the Niagara Falls High School Band.

Commission Chairman Fabrizio says several city officials had promised to budget parade expenses, but the money never arrived.

Speaking for the commission, Fabrizio says he hopes that the city will include the necessary funding in the 2017 budget that will allow them to plan a world-class parade and event to celebrate the sacrificed lives.

While the parade is cancelled, the Memorial Day Ceremony at the monuments will be held as usual on Saturday, May 28.
