Destination Niagara USA recognizes the power of social media and says by connecting with the popular review site ‘Yelp,’ it will help local businesses and tourism in Niagara Falls. Destination Niagara USA is the marketing organization for Niagara Falls and Niagara County that promotes tourism.
Toronto resident, Wayne Stewart, is visiting the falls for the day with his family from Jamaica. He says the sewage that seeped into the the lower Niagara River at the base of the Falls two weeks ago didn’t stop him from visiting the falls.
Destination Niagara USA says because of families like the Stewarts, they haven’t see tourism numbers take a hit.
Andrea Czopp, Destination Niagara USA Director of Communications, says, “We did some very proactive social media work through our very own organization to explain to people that this was in and out very quickly.”
Czopp and her team recognizes the importance of social media, so that is why representatives are continuing their efforts to bring attention to local businesses, restaurants, attractions, and more.
Destination Niagara USA met with a representative with ‘Yelp’ at 9 a.m. at Niagara Falls City Hall with business owners, hotels and restaurants management in attendance.
“People are heading in that route nowadays, using social media to find more information about where to eat where to go where to stay. So we're really trying to encourage our local businesses to take advantage of that,” Czopp said.
