Niagara Falls family grateful for friend's help after feeling victimized by area contractor

Colleen and Tim Degenhardt's backyard is a muddy, torn-up mess. It’s not at all what they envisioned when they hired “K. Son Properties INC." several months ago. “We didn't have any clue about him. We didn't know that he was going to hurt my husband.”

Colleen said she hired the company to build a bedroom onto the first floor of their home on 75th Street in Niagara Falls. Tim is a disabled vet and getting around isn't easy. “He would love not to be able to run the stairs, up and down.”

Colleen didn't pay for the job up front. But she said they did pay for the supplies to the tune of $8500. “We thought, well, that's for our project. No. It wasn't for our project. It was for his projects.”

Enter Tom DiPasquale. “It's just the right thing to do,” he said. He started a "Go Fund Me" page for the Degenhardts, and he's hoping to raise $19,000. “This time of the year it's tough on people because of Christmas and their own needs. But, everyone's pitching in the best they can. That's all you can ask for.”

We reached out to the owner of K. Son Properties. He said he intends to pay the family back within 30 days. “I will make right on it. I'm doing the best I can.”

Colleen and Tim only hope that's true. One thing is for sure: they don't take friends like Tom DiPasquale for granted. “There are angels all around us. We just have to figure out who they are, and Tom DiPasquale is one.”
