The town of Newfane is losing its only emergency room.

Eastern Niagara Hospital is turning its ER into an urgent care clinic. The announcement comes just a year after the inpatient 63-bed unit shut down.

The Eastern Niagara Health System is trying to rebound from recent financial losses.

After mid-March, patients who need critical care will have to travel ten miles west, to the ER in Lockport.

Eastern Niagara plans to maintain all of its outpatient clinics in Newfane.
