New York lawmakers pushing to ban tackling in youth football

Posted

A group of New York Lawmakers are moving to ban tackling in Youth Football.

A bill, sponsored by Assemblyman Michael Benedetto, would prohibit organized tackle football for any kids 13 and younger.

The lawmakers claim that prohibiting organized contact football would better protect young kids them from sustaining serious head injuries until their bodies mature to a point where it will be safer for them to play.

The bill wouldn't prohibit other forms of organized football, such as flag or touch football.

A similar bill has been introduced each of the past two sessions, but never received a vote in committee, much less the house floor.
