Buffalo Police sued for not releasing info

The New York Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit against the Buffalo Police Department after it refused to comply with a Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request.

The NYCLU is seeking information on a variety of policing tactics used by the BPD, such as the use of force, stops and temporary detentions, surveillance technologies and the enforcement of non-criminal offenses.

The request is part of its Police Report Card Project.

7 Eyewitness News has reached out to the Buffalo Police Department for comment: "Buffalo police did respond to the request and did provide information. Due to pending litigation the department can't comment further at this time."
