A new study by Windsong Radiology Group shows that 3D mammography detects breast smaller cancers, and more cancers with architecture distortions.
Dr. Cynthia Fan at Windsong said the 3D mammogram machines are more efficient than the 2D. Her research shows the new technology is able to catch breast cancer early on, because it can see through dense breast tissues.
“In 3D images we can see masses with speculation much better,” Dr. Fan said.
She said before the 3D machines, a lot of patients were living their doctor’s office with undetected breast cancer, because doctors couldn’t see it.
This is why Windsong Radiology is hitting the road in a new motor-coach it was able to secure through a New York State grant. Radiologists will travel to underserved communities throughout Western New York to die all women access to this life saving machine.
Some doctors say women should start getting their annual exams at the age of 40.
Winding Radiology Group is the largest free standing radiology facility in Western New York and one of the busiest in the nation, performing over 400,000 imaging exams last year.
