Hertel Avenue Poutine & Cream opened about four months ago - just before Lloyd opened its ice cream expansion across the street. This could have created fierce competition, but instead the two businesses decided to work together to give customers a variety of options.
Rick Myrtle, district manager of the Poutine & Cream on Hertel, said the small businesses of Hertel Avenue work to create a friendly culture of competition. They do this by offering different options of food and shopping, like different styles of ice cream.
"So instead of each company basing themselves off of each concept, we got together and decided each one is going to do something different," Myrtle said. "To draw more families into this area."
