New law requires Erie County to "buy American"

Erie County Legislator Ted Morton introduced the Made in America Act today.

He said, "This law requires the county purchase goods made right here in America."

The proposed law would amend the Erie County Charter to require that all county purchases over $10,000 be manufactured in the U.S. and all contracts for services over $10,000 are made with entities also in the U.S.

The Act would enable Erie County to support American manufacturers and encourage domestic economic growth. If approved by the Erie County Legislature and signed by the County Executive, the law could be on the ballot for voters to decide.

New York State recently adopted a "Buy American" law that will require American made iron and steel for transportation projects.
