Erie County Sheriff’s detectives said the human remains found Saturday morning in a town park in North Collins are a male victim.

According to a spokesman for the department, the human remains were found “deep in the woods” of the Marion J. Fricano Memorial Park by hikers walking in the area shortly after 11 A.M. When deputies arrived on scene, they verified a boot and human remains on the property, and so began the excavation process.

Detectives said the remains had been there for at least 10 years.

Anthropologists and the Erie County Medical Examiner assisted with the investigation.

The remains have been turned over to the medical examiner.

We're told the investigation is far from over.
