A freight brokerage headed by an executive from Atlanta has picked Buffalo to launch a new company that aims to add 100 jobs over the next five years.

Larkin Express Logistics has invested $700,000 into its headquarters at 737 Delaware Avenue. It will receive $300,000 in tax credits through the state's Excelsior Jobs Program if it reaches its job creation commitments of adding 53 jobs by 2023.

The company has assembled a small workforce in the Queen City since the beginning of the year and is looking to add dozens more jobs over the next several months in business development, account management, and carrier operations. The hope is to ultimately reach 100 full-time jobs or more, said president Don De Laria.

"Our research prior to choosing Buffalo spoke highly of the local work ethic," said De Laria, who is married to a Grand Island native. "Now we're seeing it firsthand as we ramp up hiring."

Larkin Express Logistics connects shippers with a network of carriers to serve a wide range of industries across North America.
