Neighbors fear rotting electric poles in backyard

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WKBW) - Imagine having a huge, rotting electric pole leaning against another in your backyard... a Cheecktowaga mom says this has been her reality for years.

Michelle Bane, mother of two, says one of the rotting poles is not intact and pieces are falling out of it.

Her biggest concern, she says, is when her kids are playing in the backyard and they're near the poles because she doesn't know how stable they are.

Bane reached out to 7 Eyewitness News after her calls to NYSEG about the crumbling pole went unanswered.

She says she first contacted NYSEG five years ago.

"I kept calling them and calling them and I really thought  last year when I called them they were going to remove the poles because they put two X's on the poles," she said. "I was like yes, it was going to be done."

NYSEG visited Bane's home again on Thursday morning and took pictures of the poles to assess the damage.

A spokesperson for NYSEG says the aging poles are scheduled the poles to be replaced by the end of June. Nyseg also says the poles are not a threat or danger to the community.
