Urban Family Practice on Jefferson Street is the only primary care facility in the neighborhood, and its CEO hopes it makes strides to improve the area.
When the UB Family Medicine center closed last year, the surrounding neighborhood was left without a primary care clinic.
Early in 2018 the Urban Family Practice took its place, and its CEO Dr. Raul Vazquez wants it to be the difference in its neighborhood.
"I grew up in these communities, so it's different for me," said Dr. Vazquez, who grew up in the Bronx. "Sometimes these kids, by seeing people who look like them and do these things, it changes lives."
