Jason Jablonski packed more life into 21 years than many people do in a lifetime.

The Orchard Park native and graduate of St. Francis High School lost his brave battle against leukemia on Sunday, less than four months after he was diagnosed.

Jablonski was surrounded by family and friends at Walter Reed Medical Center, where he had been receiving treatment since his diagnosis in August. The Naval Academy said his condition deteriorated quickly over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

“Midshipman Jablonski was well known by fellow Midshipmen for his tremendous optimism and ability to have a positive impact on everyone he met, even in the face a disease like leukemia,” said Naval Academy Commandant Marine Col. Steve Liszewski. “His attitude and fighting spirit can serve as an inspiration to us all, and his passing is a humble reminder about the value of life.”

Jablonski was in his senior year at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he was majoring in economics. Jablonski was on the superintendent's list for the past three semesters and the commandant's list every semester while at the academy.

In addition to his accomplishments in the classroom, Jablonski was also a member of the 13th Company and the men's club ice hockey team.
