McDonald's and its franchisees are investing hundreds of millions of dollars into transforming its restaurants across the United States this year and next.

The company told E.W. Scripps' national reporters the customer experience will be different both inside and outside of its restaurants. Changes will include:

• Remodeling counters to allow for new table service (food is taken to guests at their seats)
• Modernized dining rooms with new decor
• Digital self-order kiosks
• New designated parking spots for curbside pickup for those who order on mobile
• New digital menu boards in the drive-thru
• Expanded McCafé counters and larger display cases
• New decor in dining rooms
• Partnering with Uber Eats for "McDelivery" at 5,000 locations

There are hundreds of McDonald's restaurants in every state that will undergo these changes. Some have already. California will see the most upgraded with an estimated $390 million being spent in that state alone.

McDonald's serves 25 million customers across the globe every day, officials said.
