Have mosquitoes in Florida have been worse than usual after Hurricane Irma?

If you ask the mosquito control agency in Hernando County, they'll say there's no doubt.

Officials from the county located just north of Tampa posted Tuesday on their Facebook page a massive pile of mosquitoes they killed in about 16 hours from a single trap.

The trap was apparently set up from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m. local time, and usually it would catch about 500 mosquitoes. However, on this occasion it caught about 26,000 mosquitoes, including 10 different species.

The agency said some of the species were capable of transmitting diseases, so it's a good reminder to take precaution outdoors, especially at night.
