It's safe to say Smokey Bear isn't celebrating his 75th birthday with a bonfire.

Smokey Bear turned 75 on Friday and is planning to celebrate with the public. Smokey will be making hundreds of appearances across the nation in the coming weeks, including dozens this Friday, Aug. 9 and Saturday, Aug. 10, to celebrate his birthday.

Smokey has had three catchphrases in his life. From 1944 through 1947, his motto was, "Smokey Says – Care Will Prevent 9 out of 10 Forest Fires." From 1947 through 2001, his motto was, "Remember... Only YOU Can Prevent Forest Fires." Since 2001, Smokey's motto has been, "Only You Can Prevent Wildfires."

Smokey's message has been shared through a number of public service announcements, posters and state fair appearances.
