City of Buffalo declares state of emergency

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The City of Buffalo has declared a State of Emergency in effect until further notice.

Three people have now tested positive for the virus in Erie County. One of those cases is in the City of Buffalo.

Mayor Byron Brown says the city doesn't have further information on that case. The city deep cleaned public access points at city buildings this weekend.

"This is a serious health situation," Brown said stressing that residents should follow social distancing protocol.

Brown also says bars, restaurants, and other establishments the do not follow the capacity limits set by the governor could be subject to fines an loss of liquor licenses,

This statement follows similar statements made by the governor and Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz.

Buffalo schools remain closed to students for Monday and staff are to report. No change has been made in the plan for Buffalo schools at this point.

The observation deck at City Hall is currently closed and all public tours are now suspended.
