MEDINA, Ohio — A 6-month-old baby was found unresponsive after she was left in a hot car for two-and-a-half hours at Mellert Park in Medina, Ohio Saturday afternoon, according to officials.

The City of Medina Safety Forces responded to the park around 2:15 p.m. and the infant was taken to Medina Hospital where authorities said efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Safety forces said the baby was left in the car during a youth baseball playoff tournament.

The Medina Youth Baseball Association president Bob Huntley released the following statement regarding the incident:

I was very saddened to learn the news of this tragic incident in our community yesterday. My heart goes out to the family of the victim. Our community carries a very heavy heart at this time as we mourn the loss of a young child.

The Medina County Police Department and the Medina County Coroner are investigating. So far, no charges have been filed.

In 2016, Ohio passed the Good Samaritan Law which allows anyone to break a car window to help a child or dog left in a hot car.
