April 26 is National Walk@Lunch Day and BlueCross BlueShield is encouraging Western New Yorkers to get outside and participate.
BlueCross BlueShield reports over 62 companies and their 20,000 employees across WNY have committed to taking a healthy walk during their lunch break alongside other companies countrywide.
According to the health insurance company, studies show regular walking can substantially reduce a person's risk of developing cardiovascular disease, hypertension and Type 2 diabetes. It also improves muscle, bone and joint health, helps a person maintain a healthy weight, leads to better sleep and gives a mental boost.
Everyone is encouraged by the Department of Health and Human Services to set a goal of at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day.
