On August 29th, 1856, M&T Bank first opened its doors. Back then, it was called "Manufacturers and Traders Bank."
160 years later, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown officially named a day after the bank.
Brown proclaimed August 29, 2016 as "M&T Day" during a big party at M&T Plaza in downtown Buffalo. The celebration included an outdoor concert, and a picnic-themed lunch to celebrate the major milestone.
Established as "Manufacturers and Traders Bank" at Two East Swan Street in downtown Buffalo on August 29, 1856, M&T has grown to become one of Western New York's top private-sector employers and one of the 20 largest, independent U.S. based commercial banks.
