People looking for a job or career change will have the opportunity to apply and interview for more than 500 open positions at an on-site hiring event in Buffalo Wednesday April 11th.

From 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., different employers will meet with job seekers at the Resource Council of WNY, Inc. at 347 East Ferry Street.

The Home Depot, Sinatra and Company Real Estate, Skilled Services International, Creative Construction Services and Buffalo Public Schools are hosting the hiring event.

Home Depot is looking to hire cashiers, lot associates, overnight freight and sales associates in its different WNY locations.

Skilled Services International, a construction labor management company, is looking to hire up to 100 new, full-time employees. The company has positions for people with little to no construction experience. General labor, diesel mechanics, electricians, carpenters, plumbers and HVAC jobs are among those Skilled Services International is hoping to fill.

"It's very difficult to find [workers], especially as you get down to the more intricate trades," David Farinacci explained. He runs Skilled Services International. "We want people A: who want to work, are ready to show up on time when scheduled and down the road are willing to invest in themselves."

Farinacci is hiring for many entry-level construction positions that don't necessarily require prior experience.

The New York State unemployment rate currently sits at 5.1%, according to the latest numbers available from the NYS Department of Labor. Every county in WNY saw a higher unemployment rate in February of 2018.

  • Erie, 6.1%
  • Niagara, 7.7%
  • Cattaraugus, 7.4%
  • Chautauqua, 6.5%
  • Allegany, 7.8%
  • Orleans, 7.4%
  • Genesee, 6.5%
  • Wyoming, 7.8%

Interested applicants are asked to bring identification and a current resume.
