More security at Rath Building after violence

Erie County is looking to ramp up security for one of its government buildings downtown.

The Office of Ere County Sheriff and the Erie County Department of Public Works want to upgrade security at the Rath Building by installing metal detectors and adding more security guards.

One of the reasons behind the request for increased security stems from concerns after recent violence around the country. A proposal from Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz states that "recent events across the nation and world have shown that heightened awareness and security is necessary in order to protect the public and public assets..."

The Erie County Legislature is expected to approve $1.5 million in county reserves for the proposal.
