Medicare could force hospitals to post their prices for service online

According to ABC News, Medicare will require hospitals to post their standard prices online and make electronic medical records more readily available to patients.

This would allow you to know exactly how much procedures and services are ahead of that billing statement.

Medicare is also reviewing how it pays for costly new forms of immunotherapy to battle cancer. Reportedly these new requirement for online prices reflects the Trump administration’s efforts to encourage patients to become better-educated decision markers with their health.

Already hospitals are required to disclose prices publicly, but the latest change would force hospitals to put that information on the internet.

The price list won’t reflect what insurance companies or government programs will pay.

Also, starting in 2021 Medicare would base part of a hospital’s payments on how good a job they do.
