Mayor: Lockport fire stressed lines, caused water main break

A new water main break in Lockport is directly related to Wednesday’s factory fire.

According to Lockport Mayor Anne McCaffrey, the large amounts of water used to fight the flames at High Tread International, put stress on water service lines.

The break happened on Summit Street Sunday night, causing the street to be closed to traffic.

McCaffrey says water is no longer leaking, but the water main will need to undergo repair.

Homes in the area did not lose water service as a result of the break, but McCaffrey says to expect more breaks as a result of the fire.

A press conference will be held this week with the latest on the fire investigation at the tire company.
