Adam Norris, a social studies teacher at Maryvale High School, has been recognized by Governor Andrew Cuomo for his exemplary professional work in education.

Governor Cuomo was on hand on Thursday to present Norris with the first Empire State Excellence in Teaching Award. The award recognizes teachers who inspire students, and help them learn in new and unique ways.

"I really build relationships with my students and connect with them on a personal level which in turn helps them work harder in my class." said Norris. "I try to be as involved as I can in this district to give back to the community which has done so much for me."

Norris uses You-Tube to take his traditional history lessons to a new level. He was presented a check for $5,000 to go along with the award.
