Marijuana growing operation discovered in Gowanda

Gowanda Police responded to a report of an odor emanating from a house on Torrance Place Friday afternoon, after investigation they discovered a large marijuana growing operation in the home.

Police arrived at the home of  58-year-old David Yezek around 3 p.m. to investigate the odor, Yezek allowed police to enter his home, where they found two large bags of marijuana in plan sight.

Yezek was detained and a search warrant was requested and approved by the Town of Persia Court.

During further search of the residence, police discovered more than 30 pounds of marijuana and over 550 marijuana plants.

Yezek was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the first degree for unlawfully growing marijuana, a felony, with more charges possible pending the processing of the marijuana plants.

Yezek was arraigned in the Town of Persia Court and remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

The Southern Tier Drug Task Force, New York State Police, and Erie County Sheriff assisted with the incident.
