Unable to get back up, Farrell spent a week eating leaves and drinking rainwater. One of the people searching for him discovered him on Aug. 16.

Farrell spent a month in a hospital recovering from his ordeal. He tells WHAM-TV that his doctors told him his survival was likely aided by the maggots that got into his wounds and eliminated harmful bacteria.
