Man sentenced in death caused by opiates

A Town of Tonawanda man who admitted to giving a woman the drugs that led to her death will spend at least 1 year and 4 months in prison.

57-year-old Jon Herrle was sentenced Wednesday for manslaughter in the second degree his role in the woman's overdose death. He was given an indeterminate sentence of 1 1/3 years to 4 years in prison.

In September 2016, Herrle gave an extremely intoxicated friend crushed opiate pills, telling her it was cocaine. The woman snorted the powder, overdosed and died.

Herrle pleaded guilty to the manslaughter charge in November 2017.
