Man rescued from wooded area near Akron Airport

A man had to be rescued from a wooded area situated between Akron Middle School and the Akron Airport overnight.

The rescue call began just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning in a wooded area off John Street.

Authorities tell 7 Eyewitness News that the victim was injured somehow while in the woods and needed to be extricated.

The Akron Fire Department, Clarence Center Fire Company, Twin City Ambulance and the Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.

A 4-wheel drive utility task vehicle from Clarence Center Fire Company assisted Akron Fire Department in extricating the victim while medics from Twin City Ambulance attended to the victim.

Mercy Flight of Western New York flew the victim to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.  His injuries and current condition was not immediately released.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office is investigating why the man was in the woods.
