A 26-year-old man out walking his dog was killed after a shooting on Busti Avenue near Hudson Street on the City's West Side.

Buffalo Police say it happened Saturday afternoon, when Edgardo Ortiz was shot just after 1 p.m. He died a short time later. His dog, Princess, who Ortiz was walking at the time, was also shot but survived.

"They can't return my husband back," said Ortiz' wife Natashka, who is grieving after the loss of her loved one.

Ortiz leaves behind his wife who is pregnant and a one year old daughter.

Knowing their dog was wounded, Natashka made the difficult decision to give the dog to the SPCA to receive the best care.

"She loved my husband, and it was really hard for me to give her up," Natashka said.

Princess will have surgery tomorrow at the SPCA of Erie County to remove the bullet that is lodged near her leg. The SPCA is also caring for Princess' litter of puppies, who were just born three weeks ago.

"I want my husband back," said his wife. "That's all I want. I know justice will be served."

Police are still investigating. Buffalo Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
