New York State Parks Police and the Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to the Niagara Gorge Trail early Sunday morning for the report of an injured person laying on the trail that leads to the water.

Police say a 24-year-old male was conscious and alert but was unable to move due to multiple broken bones.

The victim told police that he was on the upper gorge rim trail, lost his bearing in the dark, and fell 50 feet onto the lower gorge trail.

The NFFD assisted with the removal of the victim from the gorge, he was then flown via Mercy Flight to ECMC.
