Man dies after crashing into a tree in Town of Sheldon

TOWN OF SHELDON, N.Y. (WKBW) - A Town of Sheldon man died yesterday after veering off the road and hitting a tree.

Police say Allen Petry was traveling westbound on State Route 20 when he drove off the road and crashed into a tree off the north side of the roadway. 

Officials have not reported what caused Petry to veer of the road.

Petry was taken to the Wyoming County Community Hospital for suspected torso injuries, then later transferred ECMC for further evaluation. 

The Wyoming County Sheriff's Office stated in a press release, "Petry succumbed to his injuries" on May 2nd. 

The Sheriff's Office originally responded to the one car accident on April 15th around 1 a.m.
