An Albion man died Saturday night after driving his car into a 14-feet deep pond in Monroe County.
Mariano Solis, 38, had been drinking at a friend’s house on Redman Road in Hamlin since noon, according to the sheriff’s office. When he tried to leave around 9:30 p.m., he drove down the driveway, across the road and around 70 feet through the lawn of a neighbor’s home before driving into the pond.
Solis called 911 from inside the car, which was fully submerged when rescuers arrived. They rushed to his aid, but Solis was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
