A Depew man is charged with driving while intoxicated after a head-on crash in Amherst sent two people to the hospital.

Amherst Police say Kevin Olewniczak, 26, was heading north on Transit Road, between Dodge and Stahley, just after 10:30 p.m. Saturday when his Saturn crossed the double yellow lines and struck a BMW driven by Anna Sholk, 19, of Lockport.

Sholk was taken by ambulance to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. Olewniczak was taken to ECMC and charged with DWI and crossing the double yellow lines.

We spoke to ECMC and were informed that Olewniczak was treated in the emergency room and later released. The status of Sholk is unknown at this time.

No further information was provided by Amherst Police.

Transit Road was closed in both directions for two hours following the crash.
