A man in Buffalo has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor animal cruelty charges after beating a small dog.

The charges have been reduced from the original accusations of felony aggravated animal cruelty.

Santiago Morales was sentenced to six months in jail and a five-year "no animal" order after beating a small, five pound Chihuahua mix belonging to an acquaintance.

The dog, Susie, was limping on three legs, had bloody eyes, and was bruised in several areas including her face. Her examination showed multiple fractures to her pelvis area and visible bruising throughout her body.

"I'm happy the judge recognized this as a true animal cruelty case," said SPCA Officer Vitello. "Often, animal beating cases are among the hardest to prove. Thankfully, the judge carefully and seriously considered the evidence presented."

Susie is still recovering in her foster home.
