A man has been arrested for stealing beehives from a company in Chico, CA.

Beekeepers at Olivarez Bees Inc. said 64 beehives disappeared on Feb. 4.

Deputies said the hives were being rented out to an almond grower in Oakdale, which lead to the arrest of Jacob William Spath of Chico.

The bees are needed to pollinate almond crops, which adds to about $15 billion to the crop's value.

Deputies said the hives were located behind a locked gate and the thieves had cut the lock to get them.
