The Orchard Park Police Department arrested a man on drug possession charges after he was witnessed by officers leaving the scene of a drug overdose on Webster Road in Orchard Park.

Officers were responding to a report of an overdose on Thursday morning just before noon when an officer witnessed 23-year-old Tyler M. Melisz running from the home of the overdose victim. An officer observed Melisz enter a vehicle and drive away.

A patrol officer pulled over Melisz's vehicle a short time later. Inside the vehicle, officers found marijuana, a hypodermic instrument, and a suspect officers suspected was heroin. A check of Melisz's record with the Department of Motor Vehicles uncovered a revoked license with 33 current suspensions. Melisz also had an outstanding warrant in the Town of Hamburg on a reckless driving charge.

Melisz was taken into custody and held on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. He is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
