A few weeks after attempting to take his own life in a jail cell, a Lewiston businessman now admits he sexually abused and tortured women.

In exchange for a 14-year sentence, Iver Phallen pleaded guilty to three felony assault charges, including two counts of first degree assault and one count of second degree assault. He originally faced more than 200 counts of sexually abusing and torturing women.

Phallen, who is 68-years-old, was accused of keeping three women against their will inside his condo.

One of the alleged victim's said she was a prostitute who went willingly to Phallen's condo. However, when there, according to the sworn statement, Phallen handcuffed and put a sack over her head.

Attorneys say the search warrant that followed uncovered ropes, torture devices and a list of victims to target inside Phallen's Lewiston condo.

Last month, Phallen attempted to kill himself inside a jail cell at the Niagara County Jail. An alert corrections officer found Phallen and sought immediate medical attention.

He will officially be sentenced next February to 14 years in jail and will have 20 years of post-release supervision.
