BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — If you're looking to hit the road before the start of 2020, there's a new report that will serve as some positive news for Western New Yorkers.

According to a new report from AAA, the average gas price for the end of 2019 in Buffalo will be lower than it was at the end of last year; while higher for the rest of the country.

Last year on December 18th the average price for a gallon of gasoline in Buffalo was $2.77; this year the average price was $2.61 per gallon, a decrease of 16 cents.

This is not the case for the rest of the country, however.

AAA says the national average price for a gallon of gas is $2.55; 29 cents higher than last year's national average for December 18th at $2.26 per gallon.

Elsewhere in Western New York, gas prices are lower at the end of this year than last, as the average price of a gallon of gas in Batavia went down from $2.73 at the end of 2018, to $2.65 as of Wednesday; an eight cent difference.

In addition, the price remains the same throughout New York state as the statewide average of $2.68 is two cents lower than last year's average of $2.70 per gallon.

“Motorists have been paying less to fill-up at the pump, but the savings may not be as significant as they’d like for this time of year,” said Elizabeth Carey, public relations director at AAA Western and Central New York. “The good news is that gas prices are not high enough to deter year end travelers from taking holiday trips. Normally, travelers tend to alter plans when gas prices hit $3 per gallon and we are well below that level now.”
