Urban Leisure and Luxury, a staple in the heart of the Elmwood Village for 25 years, is going out of business.

Owners Ward and Maureen Pinkel, who have grown the store from a surf and skate shop in the early 1990s to one of the the most prominent locally-owned clothing retailers in the city, are retiring from the retail industry.

The Elmwood Village Association says the Pinkels are promising to find a new tenant for their longtime home between Auburn and Breckenridge "who will compliment Elmwood's evolution." The Pinkels, meanwhile, will shift their focus to their local real estate company, Metro Beach, Inc.

A liquidation sale is now underway. The store plans to close August 27th.
