Lockout procedures were initiated at Sweet Home Central schools Friday after Amherst police reported a man with a gun was seen in town.

Police released a picture of the man this afternoon.

Police said they responded to a shots fired call on Commerce Drive. No injuries were reported. Officers said it was not a random incident, and assured that the general public is not in danger.

Police gave the district permission to release the high school, Willow Ridge and Heritage Heights at their normal dismissal times. It said numerous police agencies were stationed throughout the area, with marked cars at each building to supervise dismissals.

Under lockout protocol, regular school activities continue as per usual, but no one is allowed to enter or leave the building.

Any one with information about this incident is asked to call Amherst Police at 689-1322.
