Local stores negatively affected by Halloween sprending trend

Posted

With only days to go before Halloween people are rushing the stores for costumes, decorations and everything in between. New reports from the National Retail Federation cite total spending this year by Americans to reach $8.4 billion dollars, but some local stores say, that spending trend hasn't been their experience at all.

Betsy Ross and her mother have been running, "Betsy Ross Costumes" in Clarence for over 30 years, she says it hasn't been easy keeping up with the price of popular trends and the online shopping experience.

In an effort to keep business going, Ross says, she's started to embrace period pieces and accessories she thinks people are looking for. Ultimately, she's just hopeful that the idea of supporting and shopping local gets people to think twice.

Additionally, she says, popular events like the "World's Largest Disco" in November help bring in additional revenue that she can rely on annually.
