Local nurse uses vacation time to help hurricane victims

Six nurses statewide are headed to Puerto Rico
Posted

Susan Williams is the definition of selflessness.

The registered nurse at the Western New York Children's Psychiatric Center in West Seneca is one of six nurses represented by the New York State Public Employees Federation who are assisting in recovering efforts in hurricane-battered Puerto Rico.

The nurses are using two weeks of their own vacation time to offer their medical expertise in the capital of San Juan.

Williams and her colleagues will be sleeping on cots at the San Juan Coliseum.

Their travel costs are being covered by the American Federation of Teachers and the AFL-CIO.
