BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Calling all girls looking to run the world!

A collective of organizations in Western New York is working to put the power in your hands.

The City of Buffalo, the Buffalo Police Department, Shea’s Performing Arts Center and Power 93.7 WBLK partnered with D’Youville College to give a high school junior or senior a $1,500 tuition waiver.

All they’re asking is for a young woman who knows how to “express herself”.

The opportunity invites girls in 11th and 12th grade to submit a 30-second video of a speech, song, poem, or even a rap about why they want to go to college.

This event is a follow up to the organizational collective’s Run the World: youth empowerment day which took place at D’Youville College in the fall.

"When girls do well in communities, communities are better, they are healthier, they are stronger," said Mayor Byron Brown.

The opportunity is open to young women in Erie and Niagara counties.

The deadline for submissions is Sunday, March 15 at 6 p.m.
