Wyoming County man allegedly caught with 91 counterfeit bills

WARSAW, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Wyoming County Sheriff's Office announced Sunday a Gainesville, N.Y. man faces multiple charges after he was allegedly found to be in possession of dozens of counterfeit $20 bills.

27-year-old Coby Cox allegedly used two counterfeit $20 bills to purchase gas Thursday night at the 7-Eleven gas station on South Main Street in Warsaw.

Friday, Cox allegedly attempted to buy a $280 PlayStation gaming console at a Walmart with counterfeit $20 bills, a cashier noticed the counterfeit bills and did not allow the transaction to continue.

The sheriff's office responded and says Cox was cooperative and following an investigation he allegedly was in possession of 91 counterfeit $20 bills.

Cox faces the following charges:

Wyoming County Sheriff's Office - criminal possession of a forged instrument a class C felony

Warsaw PD - first degree criminal possession of a forged instrument a class C felony and petit larceny a class A misdemeanor.

Cox was arraigned and released with a return date of March 2nd.
