ELMA, N.Y. (WKBW) — A California woman has died after she crashed her U-Haul truck on Route 400, Tuesday morning.
According to New York State Police, Helen M. Deter, 73 of Desert Springs, CA, was traveling north on Rt. 400 in the Elma area when the truck she was driving started to drift from lane to lane. Police say the truck then tipped on it's side, struck a guardrail and then flipped into a ditch.
Deter and her dog were both ejected from the vehicle. Deter was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the dog survived.
An investigation showed that Deter was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
