BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — If you're feeling more sleepy, having a hard time concentrating, lack energy, or don't feel interested in doing things you normally do in the fall and winter months, you're not alone.

"A lot of people probably think it's normal to feel this way, it happens every year and they don't really identify it as something that's an issue," said Stacie Capozzi, program director at BestSelf Behavioral Health.

Depression that comes during certain seasons is common in areas north of the equator, and there are many things you can do to help combat it outside of counseling

  • wear brighter colors
  • journal daily with things you are grateful for
  • get active, try yoga or a walk outside
  • spend time with friends and family
  • eat healthy
  • stay warm, try sitting by a fire

If your thoughts progress to self harm or continue past the winter seasons, seek help.
